Appointments will be resolved by consensus
Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar said that President Michel Sleiman was evidently capable of handling the cabinet meeting on Thursday, describing it as “long” and “calm”.
Najjar told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Friday that the cabinet meeting was successful, although it postponed deciding on military appointments, noting that discussions were still taking place to reach conclusions. “This does not mean that consensus is not possible, and this issue will be resolved soon,” he commented.
Concerning the rights and powers of the deputy prime minister, Najjar noted that it was a constitutional matter that should be treated calmly, or else it would instigate sectarian conflicts. “It is evident that the Orthodox sect wants to define these rights and privileges so that no future confusions emerge,” he said.
