Endorsement of electoral law needed as soon as possible
Interior Minister Ziad Baroud on Sunday called for approving the electoral law as soon as possible because it is an urgent necessity for the committee in charge of supervising the parliamentary elections, whether it was the interior ministry or another independent committee.
Baroud told An-Nahar newspaper that the parliament has the authority to choose the electoral law that will be adopted.
He added that the logistic and administrative preparations needed time and his ministry was working hard and making real efforts which began a month ago.
“I attended all the Administrative and Justice commission’ meetings and the work on some reforms is improving in order to reach positive results as soon as possible,” he commented.
Baroud marked that his ministry will coordinate with the Foreign Ministry in order to include the emigrants’ right to vote within the electoral law’s reforms.
