Opposition aims to neutralise President Sleiman

The General Coordinator of the March 14 coalition Fares Soueid on Sunday said that the opposition was obstructing President Michel Sleiman’s work that aimed to implement the state’ role and sovereignty, through MP Michel Aoun.

“Why MP Aoun did not ask his ministers to call for the deputy prime minister’s authorities within the cabinet? Why did he precede the cabinet’s formation with a Sunni-Christian conflict?” he questioned.

He added that the opposition’s behavior aimed to neutralise President Michel Sleiman and force his role to be administrative in order to weaken the state’s role and obstruct the institutions’ work.

He marked that Hezbollah announced that it will keep its weapons until the demolition of Israel to improve the conditions of the Syrian-Israeli negotiations.

He also said that Hezbollah was confused because it could not achieve its objectives during May events on the one hand, and it realized that it will pay the price if the Syrian-Israeli negotiations succeeded on the other.

Soueid called for the presence of the Arab League during the roundtable dialogue under the auspices of President Michel Sleiman to discuss the relation between the state and the armed groups, not the issues related to the fires, oil, and traffic law.

“Will the presence of weapons threaten the results of the parliamentary elections in 2009 as it canceled the 2005 elections’ effects?” he concluded.
