Agreement on electoral law without reforms disturbing
Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra said that the electoral law could not be adopted gradually, and he expressed his fear that the March 8 coalition would agree on the electoral redistricting without adding the reforms.
In an interview with the Saudi-run Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper on Tuesday, Zahra said there were two bases for the March 14 coalition’s fears. “First, the opposition does not want to give Lebanese emigrants the right to vote since it would affect the election’s results. Second, there is the need to limit the threat of weapons in the parliamentary elections along with limiting campaign spending,” he said.
“It is regretable that the weapons issue may not be resolved on the dialogue roundtable prior to the election,” Zahra added.
