Kataeb will definitely have a Beirut candidate for 2009 elections
Nadim Gemayel, the son of late President Bachir Gemayel, said that the Kataeb party would definitely choose a candidate in Beirut to run in the 2009 elections. He said that the person chosen would represent the Lebanese resistance that defended the country during the Syrian and Palestinian occupation.
During a meeting with Kataeb supporters in Rmeil on Tuesday, Gemayel said that the party would choose someone who shared the values of Gemayel’s father, and would fight for freedom, sovereignty and liberation.
Noting that it had been three years since Syrian troops withdrew from Lebanon, Gemayel said that the purpose of the meeting was to stimulate the party’s role in political affairs.
Gemayel called on his party to embrace openness and inclusion so as to avoid strife within the Christian community, which he said some were trying to create.
Gemayel said that it was critical that the party find its voice and achieve the objectives of the Cedar Revolution. He said the choice before the people was between those who represent only personal interests and those who wish to make the country free and safe.
