Gunmen Detain Sayyed Amin”s Son in Sarafand
Unknown gunmen briefly detained the son of Sayyed Ali al-Amin while he and two of his aides drove through the southern village of Sarafand early Thursday, said a statement by Amin”s office.
The statement, which was issued Friday, said armed elements belonging to a political party intercepted the sheikh”s son, detaining him as well as two aides in his company.
The three were released after lengthy interrogation at Zogheib army barracks, the statement added.
It said armed members in three four-wheelers intercepted Amin”s car, forced them to step out and took away their identification cards and cell phones.
As they were being interrogated, a Lebanese army patrol arrived at the scene; and while troops did not arrest the gunmen, they detained Amin”s son and his two comrades and took them with hands and legs cuffed to an army post in Zahrani before interrogation at Zogheib barracks, the statement added.
The statement called on Lebanese authorities to take "suitable measures" to protect the citizens.
