Delay in dialogue obstructs state-building process
Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra told An-Nahar newspaper on Saturday that the national dialogue roundtable would fail if it does not find a solution to the issue of Hezbollah’s weapons.
“Any delay in the dialogue falls within the interests of those who do not want the state-building process to take place, in order to achieve political success,” he said.
Zahra said that Israel has an interest in obstructing the state-building process in Lebanon, which he said is evident given that every war or deal offers Hezbollah the chance to “claim a new victory.”
He added that the disarmament of Hezbollah would be the last step in a lengthy process. This process would begin by determining the purpose of the use of weapons and emphasizing the state’s authority.
Zahra said that they had requested the adoption of the complete election law, with electoral redistricting provisions and reforms, at one time. “We will try to pass the law in parliament in a month, after it is completed by the Administration and Justice Parliamentary Committee,” he said.
