Lebanese unity must not just be a slogan
Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani said on Saturday that unity between Muslims and Christians, Lebanese unity, must not just be a slogan but be embodied in politics, the media, and education.
Qabbani addressed a crowd during a commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Imam Moussa Sadr’s disappearance, saying that Lebanon was threatened by daily fighting in Beirut, Tripoli and the Bekaa valley. “This must stop, and armed parties are responsible for limiting the violence,” he said.
“Religious leaders have large responsibilities, and those who carry weapons have much larger responsibilities,” he said. Qabbani urged all Lebanese to work for the stability and success of the country, “because sectarian strife is not in anyone’s interest.”
