Assad’s statements contradicted the idea of Lebanon’s sovereignty
Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Friday that he was concerned about Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s statements during the quadripartite summit held on Thursday in Damascus, because they contradicted the idea of Lebanon’s sovereignty.
He added that Assad’s speech about Lebanon proved the Lebanese Forces’ previous warnings about Syria’s aim to intervene again in internal Lebanese affairs.
“How can Assad announce that he requested President Michel Sleiman to send army troops to the North in order to stop conflicts?” he said in reference to the Syrian head-of-state’s request that his Lebanese counterpart deal with the outbreaks of violence in northern Lebanon since May.
Zahra called on the Lebanese army to be more firm and decisive in dealing with the security in the country.
He confirmed that the roundtable dialogue to be held under the auspices of President Sleiman would discuss only the national defense strategy and the relation between the state and Lebanese parties and groups.
