Syria has learned nothing from the past
During a dinner for the Lebanese Forces at Ain al-Rihani-Kesrouan on Saturday, former Tourism Minister Joseph Sarkis said that Lebanon was facing a “conspiracy” against its entire system and identity. Sarkis said this project aimed to weaken Lebanon in order to establish another state in the country, which would be “totally different from our culture, beliefs and values” and transform Lebanon into an open battlefield.
Sarkis said that the Syrian regime’s interference in Lebanese political life had proven that its behavior had not changed, as through Damascus had learned nothing from the circumstances surrounding its army’s withdrawal from Lebanon.
Sarkis warned that assassinations would occur again in Tripoli and Lebanon. He called on the Lebanese to unite, firstly as Christians, and secondly by upholding the legitimate state as the nation’s sole decision maker. He urged Lebanese to practically support the Lebanese army and the Maronite Patriarch of Lebanon, Nasrallah Sfeir.
