Lebanese Forces ready to discuss defense strategy and state authority
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said that President Michel Sleiman’s invitation to dialogue on September 16 was a “joyful surprise,” adding that his party was ready for any roundtable dialogue, whether in Baabda or anywhere else, to discuss Lebanon’s defense strategy and who makes strategic national decisions.
In an interview with An-Nahar newspaper on Wednesday, Geagea said that he suggested to the committee that was preparing for the dialogue to set a mechanism for the execution of all unimplemented decisions agreed on in the previous dialogues, such as the disarmament of Palestinians outside the refugee camps, which has become an Arab and international request, as well as the demarcation of the borders with Syria and the establishment of Lebanese-Syrian diplomatic ties. “Once this is done, the defense strategy can be discussed,” he said.
Concerning the possibility of reaching an agreement on Hezbollah’s weapons and the defense strategy, Geagea said, “At least we could possibly reach a kind of reconciliation between Hezbollah and its allies’ point of view regarding this topic and the vision of the rest of the Lebanese.”
