Five young men were shot at on Monday on their way out of an eatery in Taalabaya, Bekaa. Abdulla al-Idawi, 18, was killed, and three others, Mohammad Abdul Hadi Zammar, Qassem Fawaz and Joseph al-Bash, were injured.
The incident sparked an armed response in Taalabaya and Saadnayel, as gunmen positioned themselves in the streets of the two villages. Army troops deployed in the region as well, blocking the main road and maintaining stability.
An-Nahar newspaper’s Tuesday edition quoted eye witnesses saying that there were young men in a Mercedes who fired at the five victims.
Al-Mustaqbal newspaper reported that a Hezbollah member shot Idawi, a Future Movement supporter, in the head, causing his death. The daily added that the attack took place while Idawi was going past members of the al-Wahdan family, who live in an area where Hezbollah and Amal are powerful.
