2009 parliamentary elections without proper atmosphere are impossible
Interior Minister Ziad Baroud said that without the proper atmosphere, the 2009 elections will be impossible. However, some have no interest in agreement and political reconciliation, and want only to disrupt and dismantle positive dialogue, Baroud said.
In an interview in Nahar al-Shabab’s Thursday edition, Baroud said that politics and security must be separated. Baroud said that reconciliation had to cover the entire country, not just Beirut. He also said that security zones undercut traditional notions of public safety. He added that “security forces are coordinating successfully with each other.”
