Dialogue Should Address Hezbollah’s Weapons
Former Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that the inclusion of Hezbollah’s arms in the roundtable dialogue agenda was a positive measure.
During a celebration in his honor, Mikati called on the dialogue participants to define a defense strategy that sets restrictions on Hezbollah’s weapons, and insisted that international guarantees were necessary to ensure Hezbollah’s disarmament.
Of the electoral law debate, Mikati said that “the 1960’s electoral law consolidated the political speeches’ federalism,” and called for the complete implementation of Taif Agreement.
Mikati expressed regret over the Bsarma incident, which he said aimed to create sedition among the people of Lebanon. He called for accelerating the investigations to prevent any dangerous reactions.
He also predicted the region will witness a major political event; it might be the accomplishment of peace between Syria and Israel, or a new war. Lebanon will be affected in any case.
Mikati called for Lebanon to remain neutral in regional disturbances and external conflicts.
