Dialogue Should Prioritise Defense Strategy
The National Liberal Party led by Dory Chamoun released a statement on Friday after its weekly meeting in which it prioritized an agreement on the defense strategy over the roundtable dialogue because it supported the state’s exclusive right to make decisions of war and peace, possess weapons and protect the country.
The party also refused in its statement the call for expanding the issues to be discussed during the upcoming dialogue sessions because, it said, this was the cabinet’s responsibility, and it rejected increasing the number of participants involved, but it insisted on being represented at the dialogue if the list of participants was enlarged.
It called for working seriously to solve the tensions in Lebanon and to set up a mechanism to end violence and curb the spread of instability.
The party also said it regretted the Bsarma incident in which two people, one from Marada and one from the Lebanese Forces, were killed on Wednesday, and called on the concerned agencies to carry out their responsibilities and apply justice.
