Christian Community Not Ripe For Reconciliation
MP Samir Franjieh told Future News television on Monday that the Christian community is not yet ready to reconcile and establish a new situation. While the need to end conflict is natural, Franjieh said, Lebanese Forces Leader Samir Geagea was correct in questioning the terms of any potential reconciliation.
He said that the most important aspect of the Lebanese Forces Memorial on Sunday was Geagea’s apology for war mistakes. “This is a courageous step and opens the door to turn the page of the past, and in this meaning Geagea was a pioneer,” he said.
Franjieh said that Geagea’s statements yesterday showed morality and could be built on. Franjieh asked whether Head of Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun is capable of admitting mistakes. “This is the challenge that Geagea set on Sunday.”
