Christians Should Set Apart Electoral and National Interests
After meeting with Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir on Wednesday, Minister of Justice Ibrahim Najjar said that the situation in Lebanon was chaotic on a certain level.
He called on all political parties, and especially the Christians, to differentiate between electoral and national interests.
Miniter Najjar said that Head of the Lebanese Forces Executive Council Samir Geagea’s, apology for his party’s possible past mistakes during an LF commemoration of slain partisans on Sunday was a courageous step, adding that he hoped it would pave the way for making further efforts toward national agreement.
Najjar praised that role the Maronite League was playing to accomplish reconciliation among opposing Christian factions on the basis of discussing all controversial issues democratically.
He affirmed that the Special Tribunal to try the assassins of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was approved, and “no one can change this fact.
