We Are Willing To Overcome The Past
Lebanese Forces MP Georges Adwan told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Thursday that the Lebanese Forces would support the attempts of the Maronite League to reconcile opposing Christian parties, “because it is no longer acceptable that disputes between Christians continue.” He said that there should be a distinction between differences in opinions, which was legal and normal in any society, and holding on to disputes that should be buried in the past.
Adwan said that the Lebanese Forces would give every chance to reconciliation efforts and would facilitate their passage. He said this was not a new policy for the Lebanese Forces, but a prior decision which they wanted to repeat, despite all that was said.
Adwan added that details weren’t important when somebody really wanted to reconcile, stressing that disputes and tensions should be put aside and a new page should be turned.
Concerning the opposition condition that an intra-Christian reconciliation be sponsored by President Michel Sleiman, Adwan said, “It is natural that reconciliations and meetings between Christian leaders take place in Bkirki, because it has historically been and will remain for everybody.
