Aoun Refuses to Forgive Geagea But Forgives Syria
The National Bloc said on Thursday that negative reaction to Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea’s apology for Lebanese Forces abuses committed during the civil war was motivated by politics.
After a meeting led by the bloc leader Carlos Eddé, the party said that Geagea’s apology fit into the atmosphere of national reconciliation. The party said that Geagea had asked the people of Lebanon for forgiveness, because they were the ones who had suffered during the wars.
The bloc said that no one was innocent, and that the people of Lebanon wanted an apology from all those who participated in conflict and war from the beginning of the civil war until the May events.
They bloc said that MP Michel Aoun, who rejected Geagea’s apology, had forgiven Syria, which murdered Lebanese officers. The bloc criticized Aoun and his allies for reversing their position on Syria, without ever offering an explanation.
“Aoun is the Christian who cannot forgive or even apologize to Lebanon… his only tactic is to spread hatred,” the bloc said.
The bloc said it hoped that municipality presidents would be allowed to run for parliament without having to resign beforehand.
