Presence of Aoun Uncalled For, As Aoun Has No Problems with Any Party
On Monday morning, Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra said that controversy over the participation of General Michel Aoun in possible reconciliation talks with the Marada Movement was misplaced. Aoun himself, had denied that he had problems with any party and so did not need to reconcile with anyone, said Zahra.
In an interview with Voice of Lebanon radio, Zahra, made the comments in response to a Marada official’s insistence that Aoun be present at the talks, and speculation that the LF would refuse. Zahra said that a meeting between LF leader Samir Geagea and Marada chief and former Minister Sleiman Franjieh may take place in a few days in Baabda.
Lebanon’s Maronite patriarch, who is currently in Rome, will not be present at the talks if they happen within a week.
“The meeting will take place with [the patriarch’s] blessing,” Zahra said, “if there is a need for a meeting this week in his absence – and he certainly would not object.”
