Delaying the Reconciliation With Franjieh Escalates Tension
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Wednesday said the delay in arranging reconciliation with Marada Movement leader Suleiman Franjieh would only escalate the situation.
"Is it reasonable to wait more (to achieve the reconciliation) so that other martyrs would fall?" Geagea asked.
"It seems that some political factions and their media organizations have never been in support of the Taef Accord," which ended the civil war, Geagea said.
He said he had expected to meet Franjieh early in the week.
Geagea said the deployment of Syrian troops off Lebanon”s northern border is not alarming.
"However, let”s wait and see if they deploy their troops further south" along the rest of the borders with Lebanon, he said.
Such an expanded deployment, Geagea explained, "would mean that they are serious in banning smuggling into Lebanon."
