Syria and Hezbollah Have No Interest in Christian Reconciliation
Samir Geagea told As-Safir newspaper on Friday that he was pleased by Maronite League preparations for a meeting with Marada Movement leader Sleiman Franjieh. The meeting should, he insisted, be blessed by Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir.
Geagea, the head of the Lebanese Forces Executive Council, added that Head of the Free Patriotic Movement MP Michel Aoun has previously announced that he was not in opposition to the reconciliation, so there was: “no need for expanded meetings.”
He said that Syria and Hezbollah had no interest in the accomplishment of reconciliation among Christian, and affirmed that the Christian representatives within the March 14 alliance will hold the majority in the parliament.
He said that the Lebanese Forces had no problem with Kataeb Party led by Amin Gemayel announcing the names of candidates, and rejected the claims that the Lebanese Forces insisted that MP Antoine Zahra should run for candidacy in Batroun to put pressure on the Kataeb Party.
He confirmed that the Lebanese Forces will support Michel Mouawad in Zghorta.
He also said that there was no “bloody history” with Hezbollah and that the Lebanese Forces would not avoid meeting the party’s Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, adding that the latter should hand over the party’s weapons in return for agreeing over the mechanism of rejecting Palestinians permanent settlement in Lebanon and protecting the South against any Israeli attacks or breaches.
