Lebanese State Needs to Control the Existence of Arms
MP Jawad Boulos said that Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun’s visit to Tehran “does not fall within the context of state-building as visits to, and meetings with, foreign officials should be of an official nature.”
Boulos told the Free Lebanon radio station on Sunday that Aoun’s decisions are connected with those of Hezbollah.
Boulos said that Saudi Arabia “has no aspirations in Lebanon,” which he said is why the kingdom should be considered differently to Syria and Iran.
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is helping Lebanon build a strong state,” he said.
He added that the main problem for the Lebanese state was its “inability to control the existence of arms outside its authority.”
Boulos said it was important to continue the reconciliation process within the Maronite community, adding he hoped that the long-awaited meeting between Lebanese Forces Executive Council leader Samir Geagea and Marada Movement leader Sleiman Franjieh would occur as soon as possible.
