Visit to Tehran is intended to Increase Divisions in Lebanon
Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) leader Walid Jumblat on Monday criticized a visit to Iran by Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun, saying it aims at provoking differences among the Lebanese factions.
Jumblat, in an article to be published by the PSP”s weekly magazine al-Anbaa, described Aoun as "leader of defeats" and said his ongoing visit to Iran is aimed at "rekindling divisions that had been settled by the Taef Accord regarding Lebanon”s Arab belonging.
Aoun”s visit, according to Jumblat, also aims at torpedoing "the policy of non alignment that Lebanon is trying to adopt" regarding regional disputes.
The Iran visit, Jumblat wrote, "coincides with President Michel Suleiman”s visit to Saudi Arabia that backs the concept of non alignment as stated by the Taef Accord."
He said the deployment of Syrian troops off Lebanon”s northern borders aims at "horrifying citizens to influence the path of the forthcoming elections."
