Riyadh: Secure Lebanon and We Won”t Have Differences with Anyone
Saudi Arabia announced Monday that it differs with some states over Lebanon and if Lebanon was safeguarded such differences would be settled.
"Lebanon is the reason for Saudi Arabia”s problems with some states. If Lebanon was secured, the kingdom would have no problems with anyone," Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal said during a meeting with visiting President Michel Suleiman, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Suleiman said he would be ready to play any "proper role" to consolidate pan-Arab solidarity in the "proper time."
The Lebanese president proposed forming a joint Arab body to monitor terror.
King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, on his part, reiterated his "hands off Lebanon" call and said the kingdom supports all the Lebanese.
Suleiman said he brings with him "the love all the Lebanese people have for Saudi Arabia."
Suleiman received the secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Conference who renewed the group”s stand against terror, asking "who gave these people the right to speak for Islam?"
Suleiman responded by saying "terror has blocked the basic Arab and Islamic cause, the Palestine cause," noting that "Israel backs differences among Arabs."
Suleiman, addressing Lebanese businessmen in Saudi Arabia, said "any Lebanese citizen who attacks his brethren through the media, especially Saudi Arabia, would be abandoning his Arab belonging."
Suleiman flew into Saudi Arabia Sunday on a two-day visit.
