Uncovering Terrorist Network is a Victory for the State
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said that the “Lebanese army and the Internal Security Forces uncovering of the terrorist cell that has been active in northern Lebanon since last May is a victory for the state and its legal institutions.”
In a statement released on Monday, Geagea said that investigations had revealed that “the perpetrators are the remnants of the Fatah al-Islam group, whose origins, relations and connections are known.”
This revelation, said Geagea, made it “the only terrorist group that thrived in the north and refutes the claims that the north has become a base for terrorism.”
Syrian officials, spearheaded by Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, have repeatedly said that the North is becoming a safe haven and a base for terrorist organizations.
“This achievement confirms once again that the state, represented by its military, security and judicial institutions, is alone capable of safeguarding citizen’s security and the nation’s security and stability.” Geagea said.
