Jumblat Welcomes Assad”s Decree on Ties with Lebanon
Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat on Tuesday termed a decree by Syrian President Bashar Assad to set up diplomatic ties with Lebanon a "positive development."
However, Jumblat said it is the "beginning of a long march to build, step by step, sound relations with Syria."
Lebanon, according to Jumblat, awaits Syria to “fulfill its commitment by demarcating borders with Lebanon so that we can regain the Shebaa Farms to Lebanese sovereignty."
In answering a question as to whether the Assad decree would affect the deployment of Syrian troops off Lebanon”s borders, Jumblat said: "The deployment is on Syrian territory and this is an internal Syrian topic."
