Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar said that Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s decree to establish diplomatic relations with Lebanon was a cause for relief.
In an interview with the French radio station Monte Carlo, Najjar said there “may be no need to completely or partly annul the agreements struck with Syria.”
Najjar said that there were “dozens of such agreements” left over from the era of Syrian tutelage.
“The Syrian-Lebanese agreements are being closely examined by the specialized administrations in the justice ministry and in all the concerned ministries,” Najjar said.
Asked whether the Syrian-Lebanese Higher Council should be abolished, Najjar said that “the mission should be redefined so as not to intercept with the embassies duties.”
