Syrian Decree Is Not Enough
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea arrived overnight from an unscheduled visit to Cairo, and said that Syria’s “issuing a decree to establish the diplomatic relations with Lebanon is only a step on the right track, but is not enough.”
Following a meeting with the Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abu Al-Gheit on Tuesday, Geagea that “this step should be the first of many to follow concerning the missing and imprisoned Lebanese in Syria and the demarcation of the borders, which will eventually lead to the liberation of the Shebaa farms, without costing the Lebanese people additional tragedies and losses.”
“The situation in Lebanon cannot stay the way it is today, while the region is witnessing deep unrest,” Geagea said.
Geagea said that Cairo was “an essential political power in the region,” and that Egypt’s “support for the Lebanese government…was enough to assist Lebanon.”
