Syria Must Declare That Shebaa Farms Belongs To Lebanon
Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt discussed reconstruction and security building efforts in Lebanon with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
In a press conference after the meeting, Jumblatt said that disagreements in Lebanon were purely political in nature, rather than confessional or sectarian.
Jumblatt said that some of the terms concerning reconciliation should be clarified so as to better inform Egyptian authorities about the situation in Lebanon.
Jumblatt said that the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lebanon and Syria needed time to be implemented, and he called on Syrian authorities to officially declare that Shebaa Farms was within Lebanese territory so that a Lebanese-Syrian official document could be submitted to the UN Security Council.
Jumblatt added that bilateral relations between the two countries were affected by assassinations that had occurred in Lebanon. People were waiting for the results of the Special Tribunal on former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri’s assassination, Jumblatt said.
Jumblatt praised the achievements that have occurred in Lebanon since the Cedar Revolution. He said that political parties should communicate in order to run the 2009 parliamentary elections democratically.
