Lebanese Forces Is Not Changing Its Stance And Is Ready For Reconciliation
Lebanese Forces MP George Adwan told Future News on Sunday that reports circulating about an upcoming interview with Lebanese Forces Executive Council leader Samir Geagea in the Kuwaiti al-Kabs newspaper were “inaccurate.”
The reports said Geagea told the newspaper that “the doors of reconciliation with Marada Movement leader Sleiman Franjieh were now closed.”
Adwan said that the Lebanese Forces position toward reconciliation would remain unchanged, regardless of announcements by other parties, because it believed that reconciliation would pave the way for furthering the national interest as well as the interests of the Christian community.
Adwan said that Geagea accepted that other parties’ positions were different, but insisted on making increased efforts to achieve reconciliation.
He added that the Maronite League was still mediating between the two parties and would meet with Franjieh on Wednesday.
Adwan called for the parties to compete democratically during the 2009 parliamentary elections.
