Syria has Become Hizbullah”s Arms Depot, Israel”s Military

The head of Israel”s Military Intelligence Amos Yadlin has accused Syria of being "an arms depot for Hizbullah weapons" in violation of a U.N. Security Council resolution which ended the 2006 war between the Jewish state and the Shiite group.

"Syria has become Hizbullah”s arms warehouse," Yadlin said during the Israeli cabinet”s weekly meeting on Sunday.
"Syria has given Hizbullah a free hand and has removed all restrictions," He went on to say. "And through its (Syria”s) irresponsible behavior has allowed Hizbullah access to nearly all of its strategic capabilities."

Israel has repeatedly accused Syria of arming Hizbullah in Lebanon in violation of U.N. Security Council resolution 1701.

Israeli officials have refrained from openly accusing Syria of supporting Hizbullah since the two countries announced last May that they were holding Turkish-mediated peace talks after an eight-year interruption.

1701 calls for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from south Lebanon and their replacement by Lebanese army troops supported by the United Nations.

It also called for disarming all militias in reference to Hizbullah and Palestinian factions, and the prevention of illegal sale of arms and smuggling of arms into Lebanon.
