Hariri Briefs Officials, Allies on Talks with Nasrallah
Mustaqbal Movement leader Saad Hariri on Monday briefed officials and allies on his meeting with Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
Hariri made the briefings in a series of telephone calls to President Michel Suleiman, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Premier Fouad Saniora, Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel, Democratic Gathering leader Walid Jumblat and Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea.
Hariri also received a delegation from the general secretariat of the March 14 forces grouping MPs Samir Franjieh and Elias Atallah as well as ex-MPs Faris Soaid and Ghattas Khoury.
Soaid told reporters the Hariri-Nasrallah meeting stressed on defusing tension and moving differences from the streets to the political arena, including the forthcoming elections.
Most important, he added, is that Hariri and Nasrallah "stressed on adhering to the Taef Accord, which is the system that settles inter-Lebanese problems."
The meeting also noted that "political differences persist between March 14 and March 8 and would be reflected in competition during the forthcoming elections," he explained.
The meeting, Soaid said, "provides Lebanese citizens with a safety net and would not lead to new alliances.
"MP Hariri and Mustaqbal Movement are part of the March 14 alliance that would be united against March 8 in the forthcoming elections," he added.
