Optimistic All Feuding Lebanese Leaders Would Reach Reconciliation
Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir said he hoped reconciliations would be reached among all Lebanese and particularly between Christians.
Sfeir told reporters at the Rafik Hariri International Airport, upon his arrival in Beirut following an official visit to Italy and the Vatican, that Pope Benedict XVI did not ask him to mediate this issue, although he said he prayed for Lebanon’s wellbeing, for his people to reconcile, and live in peace and stability.
Sfeir said he did not discuss with President Michel Sleiman the issue of broadening participation in the national dialogue when two leaders met during their official visits to Rome.
“I have no personal opinion in this matter but we support all that is good for this country,” Sfeir said.
With regard to Future Movement leader Saad Hariri’s meeting with Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, Sfeir said “we wish for all the Lebanese leaders to meet."
