Allegations Raise Doubts about Syria’s Intentions
Minister of State Wael Abu Faour said that allegations broadcast on Syrian state TV that Future Movement was involved in funding the group responsible for bombing in Damascus were “a theater” staged by Syrian intelligence.
“On one hand Syria announces that it wants to establish diplomatic relations… and on the other hand it comes up with these fabrications which raise doubts concerning the truth of the statement on serious relations between Lebanon and Syria, non-interference in Lebanese issues and admittance of Lebanon’s independence, sovereignty, and freedom,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
“The new fabricated film indicates that a new period is coming,” he said. Abu Faour also warned of repercussions of the allegations, which he said deviate from the path of the past two months, which have seen Syria and Lebanon move towards improved diplomatic relations.
Abu Faour commented on the expected visit of Interior Minister Ziad Baroud to Damascus on Monday, saying, “I will not call on the Interior Minister to reconsider the visit, but to reconsider the agenda.”
He said that it was illogical to overcome a “big thing” such as the “Syrian intelligence fabrications” and he called on Baroud to make this a central topic of discussion.
