Lebanese Are Victims of Lies about Supporting-Financing Terrorists
Mufti of the Lebanese Republic Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani said that the national dialogue was the key to the solution awaited by all Lebanese that would achieve peace, carry out the 2009 parliamentary elections on time and eliminate political bargaining from Lebanon.
During a meeting with the Lebanese community in Egypt on Wednesday, Qabbani said, “Reconciliation in Lebanon should continue. Stopping or postponing it will have a negative effect on everybody because it is the basis of the dialogue’s success.”
Qabbani called on participants to reinforce confidence among each other, put more efforts and wisdom into their dialogue and to avoid the claims and accusations that undermine discussion.
About the terrorist networks, Qabbani said, “Lebanese are the victims of lies about supporting and financing terrorist networks. Statements about this are designed to mislead and distort the truths to achieve political gains.” Issuing allegations unfairly, he added, is disappointing and there are no terrorists supported by Lebanese people. Qabbani said he had confidence in the Lebanese will to turn a new page to face dangers threatening their country.
