Aoun’s Expected Visit to Syria Already Has Political Implication

MP Samir Franjieh said that the expected visit of Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun to Syria "had happened in its political meaning" before the retired general physically went to Syria. Aoun had previously been strongly opposed to the Syrian government.

Franjieh also raised the issue of missing persons in Syria, saying that they “should not be put in a political bazaar.”

After meeting with Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir on Tuesday in Bkirki, Franjieh said that President Michel Sleiman’s initiative in the United Nations to make Lebanon the center of interfaith dialogue, “revives its exceptional  role in the world,” adding that the main condition for the success of this initiative was keeping Lebanon away from conflicts in the region.

This would, he said, be possible with implementation of UNSCR 1701.
