Issue of Lebanese Detainees in Syria a Tragedy

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Tuesday said there are no differences among the ranks of March 14 Forces over the 2009 elections, adding there are ongoing discussions to agree on electoral lists.

Geagea also reiterated to families of Lebanese detainees in Syrian prisons that he feared the other side would be violent if it feels it won”t be able to win the parliamentary elections.

The LF leader described the case of the families "a national tragedy" and said "some are dealing with this issue very lightly."

"This is a state issue and not an issue of a sect, a region or a party. Hence, we call on President Michel Suleiman…to settle it prior to entering into other details," Geagea said.

Regarding the recent incident in Batroun, Geagea regretted the "fact that some parties are resorting to violence to resolve political disputes."

He was referring to the shooting of Hanna Harb, a personal bodyguard of MP Butros Harb”s brother, by Ghassan Kanaan, who is affiliated with Suleiman Franjieh”s Marada Movement.
