Despite Transition of Power in US, American Support for Lebanon Will Remain Unchanged
Kataeb Party leader Amin Gemayel said that the international community continued to be interested in Lebanon, despite the country’s internal conflict and the many other difficulties around the world.
After meeting with an American delegation led by US Ambassador Michelle Sison on Thursday, Gemayel said that while the American administration was in a transitional phase, US support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and economy, along with efforts to arm the Lebanese Armed Forces would remain unchanged.
Gemayel called on the cabinet to speed up efforts to improve the economic situation. He added that he hoped that Christian reconciliation would soon be accomplished, and observed that President Michel Sleiman and Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir were both interested in the issue. Gemayel said that some parties could take important and quick measures that would help lead toward an expanded and comprehensive reconciliation.
