Marada are Carrying out Patrols in Chekka Rather than Police

Lebanese Forces (LF) Head Samir Geagea questioned the role of police in the northern town of Chekka, affirming that armed Marada members are now carrying out armed patrols.

Following his meeting with a Phalange delegation at Maarab," these days no one can threaten anyone; we turn back threats to those that issue them hence, I don”t have an explanation security breaches and ongoing armed movements over the past ten days ago at Koura and Batroun regions, aiming to create terror and forcing people to vote for the Marada and March 8 Forces." Geagea said.

He went on to explain," If this is the way in which things were done back in the fifties and sixties it certainly is no way for getting positive results at the 2009 elections."

He praised," Washington”s step for arming the Lebanese army," calling it," very positive" hoping that this step is," quickly strengthened by further steps as we expected."

The LF leader pointed that LF and Phalange goals are one," even though we are two different organizations; we shall follow our meetings to arrive at a full common vision in particular concerning the next parliamentary elections."

"The term settlement can be used between the two political parties; rather there are discussions to agree over points that we have not agreed to yet," adding ," there is actual progress in this regard." Geagea went on to say," those betting on differences between us and the Phalange are betting on baseless things."

Regarding the security situation at Ain el-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp Geagea stressed the need for the state to take responsibility and arrest the wanted individual," for we can longer accept the concept of security through consensus particularly when we are dealing with sensitive and dangerous issues such as Abdul Rahman Awad."
