MPs Samir Jisr and Mohammad Kabbara visited the Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhood in Tripoli; hours after an armed clash erupted there at dawn on Friday between residents and military officers.
After meeting with local officials and religious leaders, the MPs called for an investigation to determine and hold accountable those responsible for the fighting, which left one dead and nine wounded.
“Both citizens and security forces are under the law,” Jisr said. “We will not be silent on this matter, and will be watching the proceedings … Those responsible for the incident, whether civilians or military personnel, must be held accountable,” he continued.
Kabbara, in turn, said the residents of Bab al-Tabbaneh were “law-abiding people,” but added that, as in all Lebanese regions, justice and the rule of law had to be implemented.
“What happened today is totally unacceptable and we demand an impartial judicial commission of inquiry,” he said.
