Border Demarcation Tied To Definition of Sovereignty
Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra said on Saturday that “after we earned our independence we should fortify it through building the state and its institutions.”
At an event in the village of Mishmish, Zahra said “one of the first indications of sovereignty is finalised borders because they establish the line between our sovereignty and the sovereignty of others.”
“Border demarcation with Syria is not a political issue but rather a matter tied to the definition of the sovereignty; it is one of the indicators of independence and it should be done as soon as possible,” Zahra said.
Zahra said that the visits between the Syrian and Lebanese officials should be mutual and not “one way,” and stressed the importance of resolving the issue of the missing and imprisoned Lebanese detainees in the Syrian jails.
He said that “true diplomatic exchange between Syria and Lebanon lies in respecting Lebanese sovereignty and refraining from interfering in (Lebanese) domestic affairs.”
“Lebanon’s independence will not be final until these issues are settled,” Zahra said.
