Abu Jamra Should Reconsider
Minister of State for Administrative Reform Ibrahim Shamseddine said that independence should be preserved and protected on a daily basis. He said he hoped “all Lebanese work together for the nation because it is our nation and not the nation of others and we do not have a partnership with the outside.”
In an interview with the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Sunday, Shamseddine called on Deputy Prime Minister Issam Abu Jamra to reconsider his decision to refrain from heading the committee that is designed to oversee appointments. Shamseddine said that he would ask the cabinet to adopt another method in case Abu Jamra insisted on not chairing the committee’s meetings.
“The biggest challenge we face as Lebanese today is to look at each other with affection and relief and not to accuse each other of treachery… It is our duty to preserve the state,” Shamseddine said, adding that power was not integrated with the state when they were in different places.
