We Will Not Remain Silent In The Face Of Attacks
Education Minister Bahia Hariri said the allegations issued against the Future Movement, which suggested the movement financed “terrorist” activity, was an attempt to politically destroy it.
“From now on, we cannot remain silent on false accusations which [are designed to] politically assassinate us as this is a prelude to physical assassination,” Hariri said, during a meeting with officials from Majdelyoun and civil society representatives from Saida on Sunday.
Hariri said that the allegations would not force the movement to deviate from the path of its long history. Hariri said she would maintain respect and clarity in talking to others however she added, “This discourse is rejected and we will not remain silent toward the discourse that attacks us.”
“They politically destroyed [former Prime Minister] Rafik Hariri because he was silent, then they physically assassinated him. We will not remain silent… because we want to defend our truth and the truth that the people chose us for,” Hariri said, adding that people had entrusted her to represent them and she owed them honesty and information.
Hariri called on the citizens of the Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp in Saida not to be worried about an incursion into the camp. She said that given the agreement between the Lebanese army and camp officials, in which the latter had agreed to peacefully hand in anyone who represented a problem to security, there would be no attempt to enter the camp.
Hariri also said that over the past 48 hours someone had directly accused the Future Movement of supporting terrorism, and challenged them to say who the high level employee was that they talked about.
“Reconciliation is serious and everybody needs it however if it remains at the level of the leaders it will lead nowhere,” she said. Hariri added that current meetings were meant to lead to reconciliation and foster an unwillingness be led into any dispute that could lead to the return of animosity.
