PSP Calls for Interrogating Lahoud on the Hariri Crime
The Progressive Socialist Party on Friday called for interrogating former President Emile Lahoud in connection with the 2005 assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri.
Walid Jumblat”s PSP, in a statement, said Lahoud who had recently defended four generals held in connection with the Hariri crime is "panicked … because the international tribunal that would try suspects would be operational soon."
"That is why he defends the four generals … because they were his team," the PSP statement said.
"Launching the tribunal contradicts expectations that had been made by Lahoud, and his supporters," it added.
U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had officially announced that the international tribunal would be functioning by March 1.
"Defending the four apprehended generals reflects (Lahoud”s) tension prior to the truth that would be outlined by the court," the statement concluded.
