Raids under way in Ain al-Hilweh
Fatah official and commander of the Palestinian Armed Struggle Command Munir al-Maqdah said Thursday that a joint Palestinian security force was carrying out raids in Ain al-Hilweh camp in search for six Fatah al-Islam members."
The security force that includes members from different organizations along with the Armed Struggle is making several raids of areas where the wanted individuals might be hiding," Maqdah told AFP”s Arabic-language service. He said there are continuous efforts to find the six fugitives, including Fatah al-Islam leader Abdul Rahman Awad. The raids targeted the camp”s Taware neighborhood where Awad was staying, he said.
Maqdah said the six Fatah al-Islam members haven”t been seen at the southern refugee camp since the Lebanese Army pressed officials in Ain al-Hilweh to hand over the suspects two weeks ago.
"We don”t have confirmation if Awad and his group of five people are inside the camp or they have left it," he said. "All parties are keen" to find a solution in order to keep stability in Ain al-Hilweh and avoid another Nahr al-Bared," Maqdah told AFP.
