UN Report Evidence of Victory of Justice
The March 14 General Secretariat Wednesday held an extraordinary meeting to discuss the eleventh report of the International Independent Investigation Commission (IIIC).
The report said the IIIC had “acquired new information that may allow it to link additional individuals to the network that carried out the assassination” of five-time Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and 22 others.
The secretariat issued a statement saying the report confirmed that the pro-government alliance’s “official and public opinion” were on target.
“What is more important is the latest report issued by the commission move to the level of prosecution and trial in March,” the statement read.
Last week, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Lebanese PM Fouad Siniora agreed on March 1, 2009 as the starting date of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
Accordingly, the statement read, the March 14 alliance called on the Lebanese to “consider the report a victory of the principle of justice without which there can be no resurrection of the rule of law.”
The alliance is to hold a press conference on Thursday, December 11, with the participation of members of the boards of trade unions in Lebanon.
