U.N. to Help Lebanon”s Election Process

Lebanon on Friday signed a protocol with the U.N. Development Program (UNDP) to provide help for the 2009 parliamentary elections process.

Interior Minister Ziad Baroud, who signed the document, said the project would "buildup capabilities of the interior ministry and its institutions … to upgrade readiness for the elections."

"The project”s outcome … would emerge even before the elections," Baroud pledged.

He said a similar agreement would be signed soon with the European Union.
