LOG head mocks Aoun”s visit to Syria
The head of the Lebanese Option Group (LOG), Ahmad al-Assaad, has criticized Free Patriotic Movement MP Michel Aoun for undertaking a visit to Damascus this week. In a statement released late Thursday by the LOG, Assaad argued that the visit was nothing more than "folklore" and had no content at all.
"The red-carpet welcoming that Aoun received in Syria is aimed at covering up the fact that he had nothing to discuss with Syrian officials," he said. "They intended to focus on style and not content because there is no content," he added. Assaad also criticized the FPM leader for having stated that the Syrian and Iranian governments would not interfere in next year”s parliamentary elections.
"Such an assumption is a silly and naive one," he said. "Everybody can feel how much both Syria and Iran are interfering in Lebanese domestic issues."
