Aoun’s Aim Is to Rule Lebanon as Assad Does Syria

Former Lebanese ambassador, Johnny Abdo, called on state authorities and military institutions to increase their efforts to investigate Brigadier General Francois al-Hajj’s assassination in December 2007.

In an interview with the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Sunday, he added that the Syrian regime realized that Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun “is in love with a big reception.” For that reason they showed hospitality and succeeded in “taking him from Lebanon.”

He said that Aoun would be the first to defend Syria and the al-Assad family. He added that, “Aoun envies Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and aims to rule Lebanon like Assad does in Damascus, because he wants to arrest all those who disagree with him.”

Abdo questioned why members of the media had not reacted to Aoun’s accusations, made in Damascus, that the Lebanese media was biased. He added that Aoun was “looking forward to governing Lebanon through a policy of tyranny and that Syria was witnessing a kind of coup.”

He mentioned that an electoral deal was made before Aoun’s visit to Damascus. Abdo added that if the opposition realized that the majority would achieve victory in the 2009 parliamentary elections, it would encourage conflicts to prevent the elections from taking place. For this reason, Abdo advised March 14 coalition leaders to stop claiming that they would win the elections.

He said that Hezbollah was confused because it had not yet responded to Imad Mughniyeh’s assassination.

He added that the “earthquake” started with the announcement that the Special Tribunal into the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri would commence in March 2009.
